Japanese consumers are tending to gradually switch to consuming cashews from Vietnam. Accordingly, in the first 5 months of 2021, our country’s cashew nut export turnover to this market increased by 4.5% over the same period last year.

Statistics from the International Trade Center (ITC) show that, in the first five months of 2021, Japan’s cashew imports reached $33.17 million, down 11.2% over the same period in 2020.

Accordingly, this market has increased imports of cashews from Vietnam, an increase of 4.5%, reaching 12.92 million USD. Vietnam’s cashew nut market share in Japan’s total import value accounted for 38.97% in the first 5 months of 2021, higher than 33.09% in the first 5 months of 2020.

On the other hand, Japan tends to sharply reduce cashew imports from India (a major supplier of cashew nuts to the Japanese market), the decrease is 22.8%, reaching 19.14 million USD.

Previously, in 2020, Vietnam exported 6,517 tons of cashew nuts to Japan, worth $42.5 million, up 83% in volume and 64.55% in value compared to 2019.

The increase of Japan’s imports of Vietnam’s cashew products will bring great opportunities for enterprises to export agricultural products in the country. However, in order to conquer this difficult market, cashew growers and cashew nut processing enterprises must pay special attention to the quality of products.
