According to preliminary data released by the Viet Pepper Association, Vietnam exported a total of 223,578 tons of pepper in the first 10 months of 2023. Among these, black pepper accounted for 200,571 tons, while white pepper contributed 23,007 tons. Despite a decrease in export turnover by 11.7%, the export volume surged by 14.6%. The average export price stood at $3,553/ton for black pepper and $5,082/ton for white pepper.
Market Trends and Destinations
China emerged as Vietnam’s primary pepper export market, importing 57,723 tons, reflecting a remarkable 265.3% increase over the same period. However, recent months have witnessed a declining trend in China’s imports. Meanwhile, the United States stood as Vietnam’s second-largest market, receiving 42,600 tons of pepper. European countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK experienced slight decreases, while markets in Turkey and France saw notable increases in pepper imports.
In contrast, Vietnam’s pepper imports during the same period decreased by 29.2%, totaling 22,502 tons. Olam and Pearl, key players in the import market, accounted for over 50% of the total market share. Imports from Brazil surged by 51.4%, constituting 62.1% of the market share, while imports from Cambodia and Indonesia experienced declines.
